A.P. Federation of Churches (APFC)

The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches (APFC) is an ecumenical body of the Bishops and Heads of the Churches in A.P.. initiated and endorsed by the APBC.

The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches (APFC), is a state level apex body and umbrella organization of all the mainline Churches of various Christian Denominations represented by the Bishops and Heads of Churches in A.P.. The APFC is an ecumenical fellowship of the Churches and Dioceses of the Catholic, CSI, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Mennonite, Salvation Army, Seventh Day Adventist, Assemblies of God, Pentecostal Churches and other Christian Denominations. The APFC is functioning from 2005 and was registered as a Society in 2008. Its office is located at the APBC Center.

The aim and object of the APFC:

To represent the A.P. Christian Minority before the Government and the public and to promote the over all development of the Christian Community by achieving progress in the social, economic, political, educational, cultural and religious fields.

Main activities of the APFC:
  • Efforts on extending the SC status to the Dalit Christians
  • Resolving the problems of the Church-run educational institutions
  • Protesting against the killings of the pastors and attacks on Christians in our State and other States like Orissa and Karnataka
  • Efforts on extending the SC status to the Dalit Christians
  • Opposing the imposition of government board on Church properties
  • Lobbying with the Government on the rights of Christian Minority and freedom of religion
  • Advocacy with the political parties on political empowerment of Christian Community
  • Collaboration in ecumenical and interfaith programmes
  • Networking with social organisations

Some of the achievements of the APFC:

  • Making the Chief Minister write to the Prime Minister and Smt. Sonia Gandhi to introduce the Bill in the Parliament for amending the Constitutional (S.C.) Order 1950
  • Getting the CID investigation ordered into all the atrocities on Christians in A.P..
  • Stopping of the take over of the Church properties by the Government Board
  • Getting a separate wing for Christian Minority in the Minorities Welfare Department
  • Achieving a separate A.P.. State Christian Finance Corporation (APSCFC)
  • Obtaining subsidy for the pilgrimage to the Holy Land from the Government
  • Orders obtained to identify and assign lands for the Christian cemeteries

The APFC has its State Level Advisory Council and State / District Action Committees consisting of prominent leaders from the priests / pastors and lay faithful who are experts in various fields. All Churches and Christian organisations need to come together and collaborate with the APFC to give credible witness and service for establishing the Kingdom of God in the State, as the Lord Jesus Christ prayed: "May they all be one as you Father are in me and I am in you. May they be one in us; so that the world may believe that you sent me! (Jn 17: 22)".
